I’ve heard that crime rates have gone up since the teaching of evolution began. Surely there must be a correlation?

There does not seem to be a correlation with the teaching of evolution and crime rates. In fact crime rates have been going down in recent years. Other western nations teach evolution, and they have lower crime rates than the US. Please see here.

Since according to surveys, almost half of the respondents claim to be creationists, then they should share the blame for the crime rate. (Shermer, Why People Believe Weird Things, p. 292)

Historically the south is the most anti-evolution of geographic regions. The south also has the highest crime rate of any region in the US. Please see here.
